About this Yokai

Sunekosuri (脛擦り) is a charming yet mischievous Yokai known for appearing on rainy nights. Traditionally described as dog-like, it frequents dark paths where it darts between the legs of travelers, rubbing against their shins. While mostly harmless, its antics can make walking difficult or cause people to stumble.

In modern pop culture, reimagined Sunekosuri was reimagined with a distinctive look that many now associate with a cat. Today, it is widely beloved as a “cute” Yokai, often appearing as a mascot in movies and anime. It remains a perfect example of how folklore evolves from eerie encounters into iconic modern characters.

Artist’s Note

I imagined it as a small, affectionate creature—almost like a sweet little cat. I think it would be nice if a yokai like this brushed against my legs.
